Rowena Cooper is an award-winning writer based in Oxford, UK and is one of the 2020 Playhouse Playmakers.

Rowena’s plays have been produced in Stratford-Upon-Avon, Brighton, and London; and her writing has featured in Bath Magg, Shooter Lit, Claudius Speaks, Panoplyzine and the anthology Somewhere to keep the rain by Winchester Poetry Festival. She holds an MSt in Creative Writing from Oxford University (Distinction), which she graduated from in 2018.

In 2019, Rowena won the Shooter Lit Poetry Prize, was shortlisted for New Writing South’s ‘Best New Play’ and The Plough ‘Short Poem’ prize, and had two poems longlisted in the National Poetry Competition.

Rowena is passionate about putting poetry into action: she runs workshops for all ability levels & age ranges, has created a new community zine to showcase the hidden stories of housing & homelessness, and is an active volunteer & board member of the Oxford Poetry Library. You also may see her performing poetry around Oxford.

She’s currently completing work on a full-length stage play of which a 15-minute extract was produced by Oxford Playhouse as part of the 2020 Offbeat festival. Alongside this, Rowena has completed a multi-series TV drama with her screenwriting partner, Robin Ganderton.
